Fish in My Life
Story
Childhood Experience
I have a great history with fish. It all started in my childhood when I was very lucky to taste dozens of different species of fish due to a number of life experiences. This gave me a lot of inspiration to cook with my Mum and learn more about fish.
When you area child, everything new is always interesting and exciting, and you never know when you will be able to use that knowledge in the future.
Our Favorite Fish
Our favorite fish was carp, sheatfish, and pikeperch. We pickled it, salted down, smoked, fried, boiled and baked, marinated and… It is easier to say what we didn’t do with it! 🙂
Choosing Fresh Fish
I got pretty good with choosing fresh fish at the fisher market, too. For example, here are three simple steps on how to ensure that the fish you buy is fresh:
- Look at fish carefully. Remember, if the fish looks fresh, it does not mean that it is fresh. Pay attention to the eyes of the fish.
- Next, smell the fish. If you feel the freshness and cannot smell anything weird – that fish is likely to be straight from the sea.
- Last but not least, check the gills – if they are red, it means that the fish is fresh.
