This Grape Shrimp Tartare recipe is a refreshing dish that unites the delicate flavors of shrimp with the sweet and tangy taste of grapes.

Grape Shrimp Tartare

Tartare typically refers to a dish in which raw ingredients, such as seafood or meat, are finely chopped or minced and then seasoned to enhance their flavors.

Where can I buy the ingredients for this recipe?

It is better to buy some fresh shrimp from your local seafood market or store, so you know it is 100% fresh. All other ingredients are easy to find in any other store.

Can I substitute the ingredients in this recipe?

You can substitute basil with a parsley sprig.

Also, you may use red grapes instead of green grapes, which also tastes really good. I made this tartare with red grapes in the past, and it was spectacular, too.

Can I make this recipe part of a menu?

You can serve this tartare with a fresh piece of bread, baguette, crackers, or crostini.

Which drinks would you pair it with?

My shrimp tartare is a very light and refreshing appetizer with popping flavors from chili, basil, and fresh lemon juice. I recommend serving it with a glass of white wine or Vinho Verde (Portuguese young green wine). Other options are:

  • Sauvignon Blanc: This white wine pairs nicely with seafood overall.
  • Chardonnay: Choose lightly oaked Chardonnay, as this wine shouldn’t beat the delicious flavor of shrimp tartare. Choose some citrus flavors in wine, which help to enhance the dish even more.
  • Pinot Grigio: This type of wine can complement the fruity aspects of the tartare and help to enjoy the appetizer even more.

It’s a good idea to taste the wine alongside a small portion of the tartare before serving it to your family and friends – to ensure the pairing is perfect.

Which Portuguese Wine Is Best for It?

Portugal produces a huge variety of wines that can be excellent choices for pairing with seafood dishes like this green grape shrimp tartare recipe.

As mentioned earlier, Vinho Verde will be best here. I served my tartare with Soalheiro Alvarinho from Quinta de Soalheiro Alvarinho. But you may also consider Encruzado or Loureiro – they are spectacular in complementing this tartare. 🙂

How long can I store this recipe leftovers?

This tartare is best enjoyed fresh due to the potential risk of bacterial growth. I recommend consuming your shrimp tartare shortly after preparing it to ensure both safety and the best flavor and texture.

In case you have any leftovers of shrimp tartare (which I doubt :-)), you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for not longer than 1-2 days to maintain its quality.

Freezing the tartare is not a good idea because it will kill all the flavors and good nutrients of the dish.

Steps

1. Prepare ingredients

5 min

Wash shrimp. Peel 1 onion, wash lemon, lime, grapes and chili pepper. Place all ingredients on a table.

2. Chop

5 min

Slice green grapes and get rid of seeds if you have any. Chop onion, chili pepper and basil leaves.

3. Prepare shrimp

15 min

Peel and cut shrimp into small pieces. I use scissors to peel and clean shrimp.

4. Gather Tartare

1 h 3 min

Transfer grapes, onion, basil, chili, shrimp to a big bowl to mix everything together. Squeeze lemon juice, add olive oil and salt to taste. Place in the fridge for 1 hour.

5. Decorate (optional)

5 min

If you want to serve it fancy, place tartare in a round cake form. It is better to use adjustable form to make a circle. Fill up the tartare and press with a spoon a little. After, accurately rise the form and decorate with lime slices, mint leaves or any decoration that you have.

6. Serve

Your Grape Shrimp Tartare is ready. Enjoy!
