I love to cook shrimp! Imagine succulent shrimp, aromatic spices, and crisp salad, this dish will make you happy.

Which season is this recipe best for?

While there’s never a wrong time to try the flavors of the Mediterranean region, this recipe is one of them.

Picture yourself enjoying these refreshing lettuce wraps al fresco, with a glass of cold drink. It is a year-round keeper.

Where can I buy the ingredients for this recipe?

You find all essential ingredients at your local grocery store or seafood market.

Look for plump, deveined shrimp, vibrant lettuce leaves, and ripe cherry tomatoes.

I always keep staples like all-purpose flour, spices, and vegetable oil at my home.

In case you need to buy them you can find them in the pantry aisle.

For added convenience, consider exploring online grocery options for doorstep delivery of your essentials.

Can I substitute the ingredients in this recipe?

Absolutely!

If shrimp isn’t your seafood of choice, feel free to swap it with chicken, tofu, or even a medley of roasted vegetables.

Experiment with different lettuce varieties such as romaine or butter lettuce for varying textures.

For a spicy kick, add the chili pepper.

Can I make this recipe part of a menu?

Certainly!

You can serve this delicious Salmon Carpaccio or Ahi Tuna SaladΒ for an appetizer.

Make these Mediterranean Shrimp Lettuce Wraps as your main course.

For dessert,Β go with myΒ Apple Cinanamon Cake,Β Kiwi Pavlova,Β orΒ Raspberry Pavlova.

Which drinks would you pair it with?

To complement the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean Shrimp Lettuce Wraps, consider serving refreshing beverages that enhance the dining experience.

Crisp white wines like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio provide a refreshing contrast to the shrimp and lettuce.

For a non-alcoholic option, choose a sparkling water infused with citrus or cucumber.

And of course, don’t forget the classic pairing of Mediterranean cuisine – a chilled glass of ouzo.

How long can I store this recipe leftovers?

While these lettuce wraps are best enjoyed fresh, you can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Store the shrimp separately from the lettuce leaves and toppings.

When ready to enjoy, simply reheat the shrimp in a skillet or microwave until warmed through, then assemble your lettuce wraps with fresh toppings for a quick and satisfying meal.

Recipe tips & tricks

  • For extra crispy shrimp, ensure they are patted dry before coating in the egg and flour mixture.
  • Serve the lettuce wraps immediately after assembly to preserve their crispness and freshness.
  • Try adding diced avocado, crumbled feta cheese, or a drizzle of balsamic glaze for extra flavor and flair.

Enjoy these mouthwatering and healthy Mediterranean Shrimp Lettuce Wraps! They are so juicy and easy to make!

Steps

1. Prepare ingredients and shrimp

2 min

Wash thoroughly cherry tomatoes, salad leaves and parley. Cut cherry tomatoes into halves.
Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.

2. Season shrimp

1 min

Season the shrimp with salt and pepper.

3. Prepare Batter

2 min

In a shallow dish, beat the egg.

4. Mix Dry Ingredients

1 min

In another shallow dish, combine flour, cornstarch, smoked red paprika, chili pepper powder, and dried basil. Mix well.

5. Coat Shrimp

3 min

Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, then the beaten egg, and last time to the flour mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
Ensure it's coated evenly. Shake off any excess flour.

6. Heat Oil

2 min

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil until it is hot, but not bubbly.

7. Fry Shrimp

10 min

Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Once done, remove the shrimp using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

8. Assemble

3 min

Take a lettuce leaf and place a few pieces of halved cherry tomatoes, parsley leaves and fried shrimp on top.
Serve the shrimp lettuce wraps immediately, with your favorite dipping sauce if desired. I don’t :-)

9. Serve

1 min

Serve the shrimp lettuce wraps immediately. Enjoy!
