If you love fresh salmon, you will enjoy my favorite Mediterranean Salmon Tartare recipe! It is very easy to prepare and I make it in 13 minutes! 😉
What is the best season to make this recipe?
This Salmon Tartare is a refreshing dish that can be enjoyed year-round, but I enjoy making it during the spring and summer months when fresh produce is abundant.
Lime juice, lemon juice, and fresh herbs perfectly complement warm weather, making it an ideal choice for outdoor picnics, and al fresco dining.
What are the health benefits of this dish?
This Mediterranean Salmon Tartare is full of vitamins and nutrients.
Fresh salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which promote heart health and reduce inflammation.
The addition of lime juice, lemon juice, and olive oil provides a boost of antioxidants and vitamins, while fresh herbs like cilantro and chives offer essential nutrients and add a burst of flavor.
Where can I buy the required ingredients?
I recommend visiting your local fish market or seafood counter to find high-quality fresh salmon fillet.
Lime juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, cilantro, chives, and shallots can be found at most grocery stores or specialty food shops.
Can I substitute any of the ingredients?
If you want to change any ingredients or herbs, please keep in mind that it will change the flavor of this dish.
I love experimenting with fresh herbs, adding white sweet onion instead of shallot, or red onion will give mild heat.
For instance, if you don’t like cilantro, you can substitute it with fresh parsley or dill.
Similarly, you can adjust the dish’s acidity by varying the proportions of lime juice, lemon juice, and rice vinegar, adding all or skipping some of them to suit your taste.
Can I make this dish part of a menu?
Sure. Salmon Tartare is a versatile dish that can be incorporated into various menus and culinary experiences.
Serve it as a refreshing appetizer at your next Mediterranean-themed dinner party or any gatherings.
Complement the vibrant flavors of Salmon Tartare with a selection of Mediterranean-inspired beverages. Crisp and refreshing white wines will be a good choice, while a light and fruity wine rosé adds a touch of elegance to your dining experience.
For non-alcoholic options, consider serving sparkling water infused with fresh citrus slices or a refreshing herbal iced tea for a delightful accompaniment.
How long can I store the leftovers?
While Salmon Tartare is best enjoyed fresh, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
It’s important to consume the leftovers promptly to preserve the freshness and flavors of the dish.
Please avoid freezing as it may change the texture and quality of the salmon.
Recipe tips & tricks:
Choose the freshest salmon fillet available and remove the skin before preparing the tartare.
Dice the salmon into uniform pieces to ensure even seasoning and flavor distribution.
Adjust the seasoning to taste, adding salt and pepper gradually as needed.
Allow the flavors to meld together by refrigerating the Salmon Tartare for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Serve with crisp rice chips, crackers, or freshly baked bread for a delightful texture contrast.

Serve
To serve, you can either shape the salmon tartare into rounds using a ring mold or simply spoon it onto serving plates. You can also garnish with avocado slices, cucumber slices, or a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired. I serve it with shrimp chips, so good! (but totally optional). Your Mediterranean Salmon Tartare is ready. Enjoy!
